Our History
Ali Amini was born in Iran, into a family deeply rooted in the tradition of carpet making. From an early age, the artistry and craftsmanship of handmade rugs surrounded him, shaping the foundation of his lifelong passion.
In 1980, Ali embarked on his career as a fashion designer, launching a clothing company and showcasing his collections through specialty boutiques. His natural talent for design and his keen business sense became evident. Yet, his artistic curiosity pushed him to explore beyond fashion.
Inspired by his family heritage, Ali developed a deep fascination with handmade carpets. What began as a hobby—repairing, designing, and weaving—soon evolved into a professional calling. Starting from the ground up, he mastered the intricacies of repair before moving on to designing exquisite rugs of his own.
In 1992, Ali immigrated to Canada, determined to bring his vision to a new market. Just a few years later, in 1997, he established Golden Rug Company in Vancouver. Through dedication, craftsmanship, and passion, Ali has become one of the most respected and trusted names in the Persian rug industry.
Today, Ali works closely with world-renowned interior designers and proudly serves clients across North America. His reputation for excellence continues to grow as he personally travels the globe to hand-select the finest collections of rugs, tapestries, pillows, saddlebags, and other artisan treasures.
